Welcome to Don’t Rush the Bacon

Welcome to Don’t Rush the Bacon.

One night, I did something completely out of character.

I didn’t rush the bacon.

Normally, I’d crank the stove up, throw it in the pan, dodge the grease pops, and have breakfast ready in what felt like two minutes. Fast has always been my default. Fast work. Fast decisions. Fast meals. Fast life.

But that night, something in me quietly said,

“Don’t rush the bacon.”

So I turned the heat down.

I watched it cook the way bacon is actually meant to cook, slowly. It crisped evenly, wasn’t overly greasy, wasn’t burnt, and somehow tasted better simply because I gave it the time it deserved.

Standing in my kitchen, I realized I wasn’t just cooking bacon differently.

I was living differently.

For the first time in a long time, I wasn’t trying to beat the clock.

Instead of rushing back to my computer to answer one more email or finish one more project, I sat down with my daughter. We ate together. I listened as she told me about her day and the friend who had hurt her feelings.

Then we watched old videos of her as a baby.

I pointed at the screen and told her,

“Remember that little girl. She’s still in there. She’s kind. She’s loving. She deserves kindness from other people, too. And no matter what happens outside these walls, she’ll always have love right here at home.”

That dinner lasted longer than usual.

The work waited.

Nothing fell apart.

But something inside me slowed down.

As I get closer to turning forty, I’m realizing life doesn’t always ask us to make dramatic changes. Sometimes it just asks us to turn the burner down.

This blog isn’t about bacon.

It’s about everything else.

The conversations we have with ourselves.
The people we love.
The mistakes we make.
Mental health.
Motherhood.
Marriage.
Business.
Politics.
Growth.
Failure.
Success.
Random thoughts at midnight.
The moments that make us laugh.
The moments that quietly change us forever.

This isn’t a self-help blog.

I’m not here to pretend I have all the answers.

I’m just a millennial who’s learning that maybe life isn’t something we’re supposed to sprint through.

Maybe we’re supposed to let a few things cook.

So pull up a chair.

Grab a cup of coffee.

Maybe a little bacon.

Let’s unravel life together.

Welcome to Don’t Rush the Bacon.

Unraveling life with a millennial. 🥓
